Which IPhone Will Have The Longest Battery Life In 2023

Everyone wants a more durable smartphone; after all, nothing is more disappointing than your device letting you down when you need it most.

When it comes to iPhones, it's not always easy to determine which phone has the best battery power. Apples tend to be a little mysterious. Official figures refer to older devices ("iPhone A" has an hour more battery than "iPhone B") or the time you can spend on an activity (16 hours of video). It's a little tricky to explain.

To be fair, battery life isn't easy to measure. Countless factors can affect the lifespan of your iPhone. If you don't use your phone a lot, you're going to have a very different experience than someone who doesn't put their phone down all day.

We've tested a lot of iPhones over the years, so we know very well how they perform in what you might think of as typical use cases - messaging, email, social, music, video, and more. If you love Apple, and after getting the best battery, you should consider one of these durable iPhones.

Latest generation: iPhone 15 Plus

In September 2023, Apple released a new generation of iPhones, with a total of 4 models.

Among the published data, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has the highest battery capacity, reaching 4,422 mAh. However, according to 9to5mac's test, in daily use, the iPhone 15 Plus with a battery capacity of 4,383 mAh won the championship.

In this test, the 15 Pro Max achieved 11 hours and 41 minutes of battery life. And the 15 Plus clocked in at a staggering 13 hours and 19 minutes.

The overall cruising time of the iPhone 14 series is slightly lower than that of the iPhone 13, so there is no need to mention it.

iPhone 13 Pro Max

Official: "Up to 2.5 hours longer than iPhone 12 Pro Max"

Streaming video playback: up to 25 hours

Video playback: up to 28 hours

Audio playback: up to 95 hours

Our test: Between a day and a half to two days, standard use

iPhone 12 Pro Max

Official: Similar to the iPhone 11 Pro Max

Streaming video playback: up to 12 hours

Video playback: up to 20 hours

Audio playback: up to 80 hours

Our test: It took about a day and a half per charge.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max isn't quite as resilient as the iPhone 13 Pro Max in terms of battery life, but it still holds up well. Most people should be able to charge for a day and a half per charge. At the very least, in a day, it's hard to kill it.

iPhone 13

Official: "Up to 2.5 hours longer than iPhone 12"

Streaming video playback: up to 15 hours

Video playback: up to 19 hours

Audio playback: up to 75 hours

Our test: about a day and a half per charge

Apple has improved battery life across the board this year, and in our testing we found that you should easily be able to get a full day's charge with comfortable cushioning.

iPhone 13 Pro

Official: "Up to 1.5 hours longer than iPhone 12 Pro"

Streaming video playback: up to 20 hours

Video playback: up to 22 hours

Audio playback: up to 75 hours

Our test: It takes about a day and a half per charge.

It may not be the same as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but the iPhone 13 Pro is a real upgrade from the iPhone 12 Pro. You should easily get through the day with the buffer. While Apple's official data shows that the iPhone 13 Pro has a longer video playback life than the iPhone 13, our actual testing shows that the iPhone 13 lasts longer in daily use.

iPhone 11

Official: "1 hour longer than iPhone XR"

Streaming video playback: up to 10 hours

Video playback: up to 17 hours

Audio playback: up to 65 hours

Our test: about a day and a half of standard use

The iPhone 11, despite being an older device, has a solid battery. A day and a half is definitely achievable, depending on your usage.

iPhone XR

Official: "Up to 1.5 hours longer than iPhone 8 Plus"

Talk time: Up to 25 hours

Internet usage time: up to 15 hours

Video playback: up to 16 hours

Audio playback: up to 65 hours

Our test: About a day and a half per charge

Until Apple doubled battery life with the iPhone 11, the iPhone XR was your best bet if you wanted an iPhone that lasted. Easily get through a full day on a single charge, and in most cases you should have a comfortable cushion for the next day

iPhone 12 Pro

Official: Similar to the iPhone 11 Pro

Streaming video playback: up to 11 hours

Video playback: up to 17 hours

Audio playback: up to 65 hours

Our test: All day per charge with standard use

Apple says the iPhone 12 Pro's battery should perform similarly to the iPhone 11 Pro's, but in our tests we found it to be a little worse. The iPhone 12 Pro should comfortably last a full day per charge with standard use, but we've found it's definitely the kind of phone you'll have to charge every night. iPhone 11 Pro offers more comfortable cushioning.

iPhone 12

Official: Same as iPhone 12 Pro

Streaming video playback: up to 11 hours

Video playback: up to 17 hours

Audio playback: up to 65 hours

Our test: All day per charge with standard use

Apple's official battery figures for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 are the same, and in our testing, we found the performance to be very similar for both. That means you can use it all day on a single charge, but you'll need to top up every night. There are very few buffers.

iPhone 13 mini

Official: "1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 mini"

Streaming video playback: up to 13 hours

Video playback: up to 17 hours

Audio playback: up to 55 hours

Our test: A full day per charge with standard usage.

The battery hampered the iPhone 12 mini last year, but this year the phone is more reliable. You should get a full day of use per charge, but don't expect too much buffering

iPhone 12 mini

Official: a little shorter than the iPhone 12

Streaming video playback: up to 10 hours

Video playback: up to 15 hours

Audio playback: up to 50 hours

Our test: It takes about a full day per charge under standard usage.

Apple's official iPhone 12 mini battery figures are shorter than what it advertises for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, but a bit more powerful than the iPhone SE. Still, in our testing, we found that the iPhone 12 mini managed four to five hours of screen time — roughly a day per charge. However, tasks like video and hotspot can be more demanding, and we did find some days where we needed to top up early.

iPhone SE (2020)

Official: "Similar to the iPhone 8"

Streaming video playback: up to 8 hours

Video playback: up to 13 hours

Audio playback: up to 40 hours

Our test: up to one day

The new iPhone SE touts the same look and feel as the iPhone 8 and, unsurprisingly, the same battery life. In our tests, the iPhone SE passed a day, but only. In most cases, the phone will be less than 5% charged before midnight. More demanding users may find themselves needing to top up in the early evening - especially if they plan to be late.
